Why do I read? Well, there are many reasons as to why. Number one: I love the escape. Number two: I love sharpening my imagination. Number three: I love learning. I could go on and on..but that may bore some of you (including myself). On average, I try to read at least a book a month. With school and other daily life it’s a pretty good goal. Is education a sum of its history, of the hard work of those who educate, all participants, or a list of demands and data tied into a momentary whim?

I ask, because as a professional I would like to have dialog with others to help our students, ourselves, and our profession.

At the 2009 RA in San Diego, Jose Alcata was on sign duty for the California delegation with Ashley Bettas. He held them, she wrote them, and he’d joke with her about her poor handwriting and how nobody could read her signs. He was trying his best to flirt, but wasn’t sure if it was working. Turns out Cupid couldn’t have done a better job if  he’d shot an arrow himself — two years later, the two are engaged to be married, and it happened right here in Chicago on the RA floor.
